PORTLAND, Maine. - After earning their first win of the season on Friday night, Maine returns to action on Saturday for the second game in as many nights against the Long Island Nets.
The Celtics (1-3) saw six players score in double figures as Maine pulled away in the second half to beat the Nets (1-2) 116-92 on Friday night in the first game of the season at the Portland Expo. Maine outscored the Nets 66-46 in the second half to cruise to the first victory of first-year head coach Phil Pressey's career.
Max Shulga led Maine with a career high 22 points, five rebounds and five assists. Amari Williams added 16 points and 8 boards, while Ron Harper Jr. and Kendall Brown each scored 15 points, with Harper adding a career high 12 rebounds. Jalen Bridges and Stefan Todorovic each scored 11 points in the win. 11 points is a new career high for Todorovic.
Maine out-rebounded Long Island 62-38, and dished out 30 assists on 42 made field goals. As a team, Maine shot 45.7% (42-92) from the floor, including 35% (14-40) from beyond the arc. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Celtics. Maine continued to be one of the top teams in the NBA G League in steals, racking up 18 on the Nets in Friday's win.
On Saturday, the Celtics will look to keep Danny Wolf in check after the Brooklyn Nets assignment player poured in 22 points and nine rebounds on 8-15 shooting to lead the Nets in game one. Ben Saraf, also on assignment from Brooklyn added 14 points and Nate Williams and Nolan Traore each added 13.
