Davison, Peterson Re-Signed To Two-Way Contracts

The Celtics organization is running it all the way back.

Following a 2023-24 season in which the Maine Celtics claimed the Eastern Conference title before the Boston Celtics claimed “Banner 18,” the Celtics have made continuity a priority throughout the organization—including up in Maine.

Boston inked Drew Peterson to a Two-Way contract for his second NBA season late last week, and they did the same this past Monday when JD Davison signed his own Two-Way deal. With Davison and Peterson back in the fold, Maine returns its first (Davison, 20.8 PPG) and fourth-leading scorers (Peterson, 16.1 PPG) and top-two playmakers—Davison has finished in the top-five in the G League in assists per game in each of his two seasons and Peterson adds a dynamic playmaking element to the offense as a 6-foot-9 point forward with the ability to map the court and make quick-decision passes off a live dribble.

Both players add consistent statistical production in the box score on top of an innate ability to impact all facets of the game. As two of the team’s leading ball-handlers, Davison and Peterson were relied upon as the offensive engine, responsible for orchestrating sets each possession, distributing shots and getting teammates involved in the offense.

Davison tallied a pair of triple-doubles during his rookie year and then set a single-season franchise record with 21 double-doubles this past season, all while making significant strides as a point-of-attack defender. Still just 21 years old, Davison proved he was equipped to handle high-pressure situations by posting a double-double in all five Maine playoff games, including three 20-point performances. The Letohatchee, Ala. Native heads into his third season as a pro with an All-G League team selection and a G League Finals berth under his belt—oh, and an NBA Championship.

As a rookie, Peterson came up big during Maine’s playoff run in his own right. He followed up a 20-point, 11-rebound and five-assist outing in Game 1 of the G League Finals with a 29-point outburst in Game 2, providing a massive boost to the offense as the game slowed down, became more physical, and the intensity was ramped up in a playoff setting. Peterson’s pace with the ball in his hands and his poise as a creator from the second and third levels of the court were a critical release valve late in the shot clock—having a tall wing that can shoot off the catch and create for himself and others off the bounce is a luxury few teams are afforded. Maine has one in Peterson.

Heading into NBA 2K25 Summer League 2024, Davison and Peterson are both signed to Two-Way contracts. If they continue to make a two-way impact on the court out in Las Vegas, even bigger things could be in store.
