Oshkosh, WI - The Maine Celtics are on the brink of their second 6-game winning streak of the season.
Fresh off a thrilling win over the Wisconsin Herd Wednesday night, the two teams square off again tonight on the road. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. and the game can be streamed live on NBAGLeague.com.
Despite having none of its Two-Way Players, Wednesday's win was Maine's biggest comeback of the season. The Celtics trailed by 81-61 halfway through the 3rd quarter, but out-scored Wisconsin 53-25 the rest of the way to snatch a 114-106 road victory. The game was highlighted by a huge 4th quarter that saw Kendall Brown go 5-5 from the floor in the period. Brown finished with a team-high 25 points. Maine out-scored Wisconsin 29-15 in the 4th quarter.
Jalen Bridges was Maine's threat from beyond the arc, shooting 6-12 from three-point range and finishing with 22 points. But the big story was newcomer Tosan Evbuomwan. The NBA veteran joined the Maine Celtics just prior to the game, and dropped 21 points in his Maine debut, including 10 points in the 4th. Evbuomwan's lay-up put Maine ahead for good in the final minutes.
As the Celtics know, beating the same team twice in a row is a difficult task. Wisconsin will once again be without Johnny Davis and Kira Lewis, both out with injuries. The Celtics will look to contain Stephen Thompson Jr., who scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in Wednesday's game. Cormac Ryan was a force for Wisconsin, dropping 25 points in the loss. The thin benches were evenly matched Wednesday night, with the Herd barely out-scoring Maine 27-26.
One of the keys to Wednesday's victory was turnovers. Regularly around to 20 turnovers in a game, Maine only turned the ball over 13 times, the Celtics' lowest total in over a month. Wisconsin turned the ball over 21 times.
With a win, Maine will have won six straight, and will start the four-game road trip on the right track. It should be a great game in Oshkosh tonight.
