GAME PREVIEW: Maine Celtics Clash with Capital City

PORTLAND, Maine. - The Maine Celtics will look to snap a three-game losing streak when they travel to take on the Capital City Go-Go on Monday afternoon.

Maine (4-5) is currently tenth in the Eastern Conference standings. Capital City (4-2) is second in the east after suffering a 113-108 loss to Birmingham on Saturday. This is the third of three meetings with the Go-Go this season, with the Celtics splitting a two-game series during Tip-Off Tournament play. Davison is the highest individual point scorer in the all-time series between Maine and Capital City, scoring 36 points on November 22, 2024.

Raptors 905 ran away from Maine on Jan. 11, taking the back-to-back sweep with a 116-99 win at the Portland Expo. Jay Scrubb led Maine with 20 points off the bench, while Anton Watson added 15 points, and Baylor Scheierman scored 14. Eric Gaines contributed a career-high 13 points off the bench, while JD Davison scored 12 in the loss. Maine was outscored 57-41 in the second half.

Scrubb has taken his game to another level since the start of the regular season. After averaging 7.6 points per game in the Tip-Off Tournament in 18.1 minutes, Scrubb has now become one of Maine's top scorers at 15.4 points per game in 27.4 minutes. Scrubb is also getting it done on defense, tallying 1.9 steals per game.

Maine will be without Two-Way Player Drew Peterson on Monday, who will miss his third straight game due to concussion protocol. Capital City is expected to be without all three Two-Way Players Jared Butler, Justin Champagnie, and Tristan Vukcevic. Kira Lewis is also out for the Go-Go.

The game will feature a pair of players who have experience playing for the other side. Celtics newcomer DJ Rodman was a member of the Go-Go for the previous two matchups with Maine back in November. Rodman had his highest scoring game in a Celtics uniform in Saturday's game against the 905 with five points. The Go-Go roster includes Taylor Funk, who appeared in 16 games for Maine last season. Funk is averaging 11.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in 22 games for Capital City this season.
