BOSTON, Mass. - A lifelong dream came true for JD Davison this weekend when the Celtics guard signed a standard NBA contract with the Boston Celtics, the team announced on Sunday.
Since being drafted by Boston with the 53rd overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, Davison has developed as a player and person on a Two-Way contract with the Celtics. During that three-year span, Davison has spent the bulk of his time with the Maine Celtics in the NBA G League, becoming one of the franchise's all-time great players.
Coming into this season, Davison made it clear what was at stake as the former Alabama standout pursued an official roster spot with Boston. After posting a historic season with Maine in 2024-25, Boston rewarded Davison with the team's final available roster spot ahead of the 2025 NBA Playoffs.
"His hard work and team-first attitude from day one with both the Boston and Maine Celtics have led to this achievement,” said Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens in a previous release. “JD has embraced the idea of continuously improving, and we are thrilled for him.”
Davison was named the Kia NBA G League MVP this season after averaging 25.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 7.4 assists, and 1.5 steals per game, leading the Maine Celtics to the Eastern Conference Finals. The 22-year-old made 30 Regular Season appearances, leading Maine to a 21-13 record, to send the reigning conference champions back into the postseason for a third straight year. His scoring mark ranked fourth in the league and his assist mark ranked seventh, making him the only G League player to place among the top seven in both categories. For the Regular Season and Tip-Off Tournament combined, Davison appeared in 45 games, averaging 25.6 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 7.7 APG, and 1.4 SPG, while shooting 48.2 percent from the field.

Davison's numbers only got better in the postseason. In three playoff games, Davison averaged 34.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 13.3 assists, and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 52.8% from the floor and 41.7% from distance. Davison is one of the most accomplished players in Maine basketball history. He owns the franchise record for points (2,677), assists (1,065), steals (158), games played (133), and field goals (994). Davison is also fourth in franchise history in rebounds (649).
Boston wraps up the regular season against the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The Celtics have clinched the #2 seed in the upcoming 2025 NBA Playoffs.
