MAINE CELTICS SELECT TWO IN NBA G LEAGUE DRAFT, ANNOUNCE TRAINING CAMP ROSTER
Training Camp Opens Tuesday at Portland Expo
PORTLAND, ME – The Maine Celtics, presented by Unum, selected Kendall Smith and Zak Irvin in today’s 2022 NBA G League Draft. Both are expected to join the Maine Celtics for training camp, which begins Tuesday at the Portland Expo.
Maine selected Smith, a point guard, in the First Round (29th overall). An NBA G League veteran, Smith has played in 35 games for three different teams, including 25 for Santa Cruz last season. Smith averaged 10.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game for the Warriors in 2021-22. Smith finished his collegiate career at Oklahoma State, and also played in 2 games for Golden State’s 2021 Summer League team.
Irvin, a guard, was taken in the Second Round of the draft (40th overall). The Michigan product played three seasons for the Westchester Knicks from 2017-20, averaging 10.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game in 83 career NBA G League games.
Additionally, the Celtics announced the rest of their training camp roster for the 2022-23 season. The Maine squad features Two-Way Players JD Davison and Mfiondu Kabengele. The team also features NBA veterans Denzel Valentine, who returns to Maine for a second season. Maine is loaded with players featuring NBA G League experience, including Marial Shayok, and former Two-Way Player Luka Samanic, who was the 19th overall selection in the 2019 NBA Draft. Providence College alum and Massachusetts native A.J. Reeves joins the Celtics as one of their four Affiliate Players, and Acushnet, MA native Eric Demers, a selection in last year’s G League Draft, returns for a second season in Maine.
