UNIONDALE, N.Y. - Maine will try to build momentum on their road trip when the Celtics battle the Long Island Nets on Wednesday. Long Island (14-10) is currently fifth in the Eastern Conference and Maine is tenth at 12-13.
Monday's game was postponed due to inclement weather. It has been rescheduled to March 19. Wednesday's game on February 25 is still scheduled to go on.
Maine will look to climb back into playoff position after the Celtics snapped their five-game losing streak with a key win over the Delaware Blue Coats on Saturday. Max Shulga's go-ahead three with 31 seconds remaining lifted the Maine Celtics over the Blue Coats 102-101. In his return to the lineup, Shulga led Maine with 26 points and 10 assists on 9-14 shooting, including 6-9 from three.
Holding on to a one-point lead with less than ten seconds to go, a steal by Hayden Gray secured the win for the Celtics. Gray had five steals in the contest and inched closer to Maine's single season steals record. Maine (12-13) forced Delaware (11-10) into a season-high 25 turnovers on Saturday night. Gray now has 75 steals on the season, and is just one more steal away from tying the single season franchise record.
Maine played Long Island previously this season during the Tip-Off Tournament, beating the Nets twice at the Portland Expo on November 14 and 15. The Celtics beat Long Island by double digits in both contests and both victories saw all five Celtics starters score nine points or greater. Long Island last played on February 20, in a narrow 104-102 loss to the Birmingham Squadron. Malachi Smith led Long Island with 17 points, five rebounds, and six assists in the loss.
Celtics fans could see a familiar face on Monday in Josh Minott. Minott played 33 games for the Boston Celtics this season, averaging 5.8 points and 3.6 rebounds in 15.9 minutes per game. On February 5, Minott was traded to the Brooklyn Nets, and he was most recently assigned to Long Island on February 17. In two G League games with Long Island, Minott has averaged 13.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 24.9 minutes per game.
