Celtics sign Ron Harper Jr. to Two-Way Contract

BOSTON, Mass. - The Boston Celtics have signed Ron Harper Jr. to a Two-Way Contract ahead of the start of the 2025-2026 regular season. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Harper Jr. joins Amari Williams and Max Shulga as the other Two-Way players on the Celtics roster. Harper Jr. appeared in three out of four Celtics preseason games this season. He averaged 4.3 points, 0.7 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 10.6 minutes per game. Harper Jr. also shot 40.0% from the field, including 42.9% from three.

The 25-year-old guard will embark on his fourth season in the NBA, most recently playing for the Detroit Pistons on a Two-Way Contract. He appeared in one game for the Pistons last season, recording 4 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists in 17 minutes of work. Harper Jr. has appeared in 11 total NBA games during his career, averaging 2.2 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.6 assists.

Prior to earning his NBA Call-Up with the Pistons, Harper Jr. played 14 games with the Maine Celtics during the 2024-25 NBA G League season. Harper Jr. averaged 14.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game in 24.6 minutes per contest in a Maine uniform. When Harper Jr. inked a deal with Detroit, he became the 22nd NBA Call-Up in franchise history and the first to earn an NBA Call-Up since Luka Šamanić in the 2022-23 season. Overall, Harper Jr. averaged 16.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 37 total G League games with the Maine Celtics and Motor City Cruise. He shot 38.6% from beyond the arc, averaging over eight three-point attempts per game.

This will be the fourth Two-Way contract Harper Jr.'s career. Previous to his time in Detroit and Portland, the New Jersey native spent two seasons with the Toronto Raptors organization.  Harper Jr. signed a Two-Way contract with the Raptors in 2022. He appeared in 10 games for the Raptors, including a career-best 10-point, four rebound effort in 2023 against Milwaukee. Harper Jr. appeared in 43 games for Toronto's G League affiliate, Raptors 905, in 2022-23, posting averages of 17.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per contest. He appeared in just six games in the 2023-24 season before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. The Raptors waived Harper Jr. shortly after in December 2023.

Ron is the son of Ron Harper, a five-time NBA champion. His brother, Dylan Harper, was selected with the second overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs.
