PORTLAND, Maine. - Maine Celtics Head Coach Tyler Lashbrook was named the NBA G League Coach of the Month for the month of February on Tuesday. This is the first Coach of the Month honor of Lashbrook's career and he's the first coach in franchise history to earn Coach of the Month honors.
Lashbrook led the Celtics to a 7-1 record during the month of February. Maine has won 10 of its last 11 games overall and currently holds a 16-10 record in the Regular Season. From January 29 to February 20, the Celtics won eight consecutive games, tying a franchise record for most games won in a row. Maine Celtics guard JD Davison was named the Kia NBA G League Player of the Month for February.
Maine is currently third in the Eastern Conference standings and is 0.5 games back of first place. The top six teams from each conference advance to the G League playoffs. The top two teams earn a first-round bye, and the third and fourth seeds each host a first-round matchup.
In his first season as Head Coach, Lashbrook has preached a 'gritty' mentality to the team. He's consistently emphasized the importance of controlling what you can control, motivating Maine to find a way to win regardless of whether or not the ball was bouncing your way that night. It's evident the team is buying into that message, as the Celtics were one of the top rebounding teams in the G League during the month of February.
During that eight-game stretch, Maine ranks third in total rebounding, averaging 51.0 boards per game. They are third in offensive rebounding (15.0 RPG) and fourth in defensive rebounding (36.0 RPG). Maine has also turned those rebounds into points, with the Celtics ranking second in the G League in second chance points with 19.5 per game. Combining the Tip-Off Tournament and Regular Season, the Maine Celtics are 14-3 when they outrebound their opponents.
The Celtics also tightened their grip on opponents during the month of February. In that eight-game stretch, Maine held their opponent to less than 100 points three times. Maine is 8-1 when holding opposing teams to less than 100 points this season.
Maine ranks third in defensive rating (104.1) among all teams in February. They've held teams to an average of 103.8 points per game during that span, which also ranks third in the G League.
Lashbrook made his head coaching debut Nov. 8 at Long Island. Lashbrook, who served as a Player Development Coach in Boston last season, was named 10th head coach in Maine franchise history last fall. He helped the Boston Celtics win the 2024 NBA Championship as an assistant coach. Lashbrook has maintained his title of Assistant Coach, making him the first Maine head coach to hold both titles simultaneously.
A native of Owensboro, Kentucky, Lashbrook is a graduate of Western Kentucky University. He joined the Boston organization prior to last season, helping develop players and working with the offensive coaching staff. Prior to that, Lashbrook was in a similar position with the Philadelphia 76ers, working as a Player Development coach from 2018- 2023. Lashbrook started his coaching career as a basketball operations intern and video coordinator in Philadelphia from 2024-2018.
Maine is 3-1 during their road trip after the Celtics beat the Grand Rapids Gold 122-111 on Tuesday. Maine plays six more games on the road before they return to Portland on March 20 to face the Osceola Magic.
